Protein Concentrate is derived from platelet-poor plasma (normally discarded with other commercial systems). Once the platelet-poor plasma (PPP) is separated from the platelet-rich plasma (PRP) with the XCELL system, it can then be passed through a fluid volume reducer to extract more than 75% of the water in the plasma. What is left behind is the concentrated proteins in a small volume of viscous yellow fluid to be used directly at the point of care.

Protein Concentrate contains beneficial proteins, like A2M, IL1-ra, sTNF, PDGF-BB, and others while adding up to an additional 1.6 billion platelets. The fold-change and concentration of PPP from the XCELL PC filter is more efficient than the competition and captures more key anti-inflammatory cytokines than others on the market.

How Efficient is the Protein Concentrate Filter?
Alpha-2-macroglobulin (A2M) is a large naturally occurring multifunctional protein found in blood plasma. Scientific evidence points to A2M as the key to slowing the progression of osteoarthritis at the molecular level. A2M is a broad spectrum protease inhibitor that captures and inactivates the three major enzymes that lead to joint breakdown and cartilage damage. It is also reported that A2M can act as a powerful anti-inflammatory and aid in pain management.

IL-1 is responsible for ongoing inflammation. Research on IL-1ra (Interleukin-1 Receptor Antagonist Protein) has shown that it binds to IL-1 receptors, inhibiting the effects of IL-1 by blocking its interaction with cell surface receptors, potentially slowing the progression of osteoarthritis in joints and alleviating pain.
